Day 3 - We finally made the long-anticipated trip to Derinkuyu ("deep well" in Turkish), a village that is home to one of the more famous underground cities in the area. In a word: amazing! This city went 8 stories deep, had a mission school, baptismal pool, communications system, air well, water well protection system, stable, etc. 10,000 people lived down there, about 4,000 to 5,000 at any given time. They would live down there for 5-6 months at a time before coming up for supplies.
Wow.
Wow!

On the way back to the hotel for afternoon nap time, Elijah and Anu got to ride a camel! Sure, it was very touristy and ridiculously overpriced, but it was still fun!
 |
| Elijah loves imitating the camel's lips and half-closed eyes |
After afternoon naps, we ventured over to another little town called Urgup and enjoyed their hip and vibrant downtown area.
Day 4 - After so much activity, time for a leisurely Turkish breakfast, shopping, wine tasting, and then back home.

| Had to include this photo! Look closely at the bridge...answering the question, "Why did the sheep cross the road?" |
 |
| This sort of resembles a certain famous street in San Francisco, doesn't it? |
