Time for a Haircut

Elijah was in desperate need of a haircut after our many weeks of travel, so we decided to try and find a barber off base. We put both boys in the stroller, with Z in the second seat for the first time.

Looking pretty comfy!
We first stopped for lunch and did a little window shopping in the "Alley." What little boy are girl wouldn't want their very own camel or throne?
Fit for a little "raja"!
This was the first time Elijah had gone to a barber, other than his very first haircut. He was a good sport for most of it, but then came all the tears. He spent the last several minutes sobbing, "No way, no way!" We couldn't blame him once we saw the end result. The worst haircut ever!
"I don't know about this, Mommy."

I would have that expression too if this was my hair! Poor guy!
We also took our first Turkey road trip to Tarsus! With only a few Turkish words and our Lonely Planet guide to help us, we hit the road and went exploring. Tarsus is only about 45 minutes from the base. After stopping to get directions from a friendly gas station attendant -- yes, Daniel stopped for directions! -- we made it to Tarsus and spent a few hours visiting St. Paul's Well and Church. The well still had water in it, but I politely declined when offered a cup.  Daniel was braver and took a sip. The well dates back to Roman times, so it was pretty neat to think about Paul living in that very city at that time. Apparently Cleopatra and Mark Antony lived in Tarsus as well during the first century. We drove by Cleopatra's Gate and Park before heading home.
Here's a peek of what the driving looks like!

Cracking up over the haircut story! And so exciting you got to see Tarsus!

His hair is still growing out from the hack-job. We won't be going back there for a haircut! To say that we've been to Tarsus is pretty neat!
