Commissioned Officer Training

Daniel left yesterday morning for Commissioned Officer Training. It's a month long, so he'll be back on April 10th. It's too bad I'll miss the graduation ceremony!

Fortunately, he's able to call me each evening, so I've heard a little bit about how he is doing. His days begin at 4:30am and can go until 9pm or later. There are no real breaks because even mealtimes are highly regimented.

Daniel mentioned before he left that he hoped he didn't laugh when they started yelling at him... he already got in trouble for laughing!!! On the first day, all the officers are lined up and he's in the front row. The instructor was illustrating how you either say "Sir" at the beginning or end but not both, so he went up to Daniel and asked him what color his shirt was. Daniel said, "Blue" and the instructor yelled back, "Blue?" So Daniel glanced down (he wasn't supposed to) and started laughing when he realized he was wearing a green polo! The instructor yelled at him asking what was so funny, and Daniel quickly became serious again. I guess it's good he got it out of his system!

I certainly miss him, but hopefully this time will be busy for both of us and will fly by. Daniel made a comment about how it seems like we always have to endure the hard stuff before we can enjoy the good stuff. It really is God's built-in system to help us grow and appreciate the blessings that He gives us. Our time together in NM is going to be that much better because of all this!
"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, when you face trails of many kinsd, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." ~James 1:1-4
