We are starting a new series of (probably many) posts re our parenting follies. In this, our inaugural post, we learned the danger of vague planning (or no planning at all, really).
Last weekend we decided it'd be fun to go for a family bike ride. Mommy's helmet? Check. Daddy's helmet and shades? Check. E's helmet, shades, and water? Check, check, check. Z buckled in next to E? Check. We shouldn't be gone for too long, so no need for diapers and E can hold it. Off we went! Daniel had a vague idea of where we were going, so we headed off towards Arkadas park to bike "The Triangle", a little over a 5k in length...except one stretch was blocked off.
Option A: Turn around the way we came, cruise around for a few minutes, and be done.
Option B: Keep going and decide to turn back later, eventually.
You guessed it: We decided to keep going. So, we rode...and rode...and rode, because we didn't know whether it'd be closer to turn back or to keep going. Elijah, water gone and snack long since eaten, went from "Pane! Birdie!" etc., to "No biting me, Zekuhl! No doing dat!" He loves his brother, but Z is still working on sitting up and he was leaning all over his big brother ... and we rode...took a break...and rode...and took a break...and rode...all the way around the base! For the last 10 minutes, E was zonked out, his helmet-clad head pushing Z's bare little head against the side of the trailer. No fussing from Z -- just big wide, concerned eyes -- and we FINALLY made it home, over 75 minutes later!
Oops! You live, you learn. At least the boys did pretty well, and we got a great workout in. But we will definitely try to plan better and have a clearer idea of where we are going and for how long!

Sounds like a very good workout! I'm sure you were glad to finally make it back home.
Wow. Sounds similar to the short 7 mile run I took around the base last week. It can't be that much further, right? Hope you are well
