What's in a name? (or why his name is Elijah, not Eli)

We've been getting a lot of questions about whether or not we're going to go with the nickname "Eli". Eli short for Elijah would make sense, right? Except that Eli was a different Biblical character altogether and we'd hate to lose the impact of Elijah's full name.

Just like "Anin" is not Anu's nickname (full name: Aninditha...And yes, people have tried to call her that.), and just as "Dan" and "Danny" are not nicknames Daniel prefers, we'd prefer it that "Eli" is not Elijah's nickname. I don't think anyone will have a problem coming up with some great alternatives.
