Breakfast in Luxembourg, Lunch in Belgium, Dinner in France

Our favorite day of our Germany trip was when we visited four countries in one day! When else do you get an opportunity to do something like that? Carrie Beliles and their live-in nanny volunteered to watch the boys for us, so Daniel and I had the day all to ourselves.  An early Christmas present!

Our first destination was Luxembourg, where we stopped for coffee and walked across the gorge and through a small Christmas market.

We then jumped in the car and headed to Bastogne, Belgium. As we were crossing the border, IKEA appeared alone on a hill...and I could hear a choir of angels...We had no choice but to stop!
After getting my IKEA fix, we arrived in Bastogne. There was a cute little square with a WWII tank memorial as a tribute to U.S. troops who fought the Germans there in December of 1944 as part of the larger Battle of the Bulge. We had a lunch in a quaint tram-car restaurant (cool history of the restaurant here) and picked up a selection of Belgian chocolates.

As the sun was setting, we found our way to Metz, France. We visited St. Etienne's Cathedral (St. Stephen's Cathedral), shopped the rows of stores and caught a ferris wheel ride at their Christmas market. Dinner consisted of hot chocolate and a banana-chocolate crepe.

What a perfect date!
