Ice Fishing

Oh, the joys of apartment living! We were just joking last night about how well we know our maintenance guy. Our bathroom facet broke and we couldn't shut the water off. When the maintenance guy came over he said, "You guys again!" He didn't mind too much though, because he really likes our cats!

Well, we were doing laundry this morning when we had another mishap. The washing machine decided to stop working mid-cycle. We called the company who own the machines, but were told that we would have to wait 1-2 business days. Our clothes couldn't sit in soapy water for that long, so we had to do something. We decided to take our laundry to the next building over...but this proved to be a little more complicated than we thought. The water filling the washing machine was ice cold! We took turns ringing out the laundry and thawing our hands as it was too painful to continue. We loaded half the sopping load into a plastic garbage bag, which ended up being too heavy and cumbersome to carry. So Daniel dragged it up the stairs, through the snow and through the parking lot. I couldn't help but laugh as I followed him; he reminded me of a cross between Quasimodo and a hobo, all hunched over and dragging his garbage bag behind him! Of course, the bag rips open in the parking lot leaving our "clean" clothes out for all the world to see! Daniel runs back for our plastic laundry basket while I scoop our underwear off the sidewalk. We managed to get our now very dirty clothes into the new washing machine and then remembered that we had to do this all over again! We went ice fishing one more time, but put the remaining load directly into the laundry basket. We said "Hi" to our amused mailman as we each carried an end of the basket with water streaming out the sides. Fortunately, we finished the task and got back to our apartment before the snow started up again. We only did 1 load of laundry this weekend!
